Definitely recommend bringing water because August will probably be a bit hot. Hiking poles are nice just for balance and assistance when you get tired! (I know this is after your probable trip but I figured others might want to know!)

You are able to sign up for a 2 hour window for entrance. You can't arrive before this time. Once in RMNP, you can stay as long as you want and can also leave and reenter later that day without problem.
