It was a very nice hike. Saw some gators in a pond on the path. Lots of birds. Some deer grazing near where we were walking. We were told about a part outside of the park but belonging to them 3 mile… Full review by Debbie C
Which trail is the best for seeing bison and horses? I did the La Chua trail? With the boardwalk that was blocked and only saw birds.

There are Bison, wild ponies, alligators, fish and tons of birds. We live near the Bolen Bluff trail (off of 441) and walk along the prairie. The Bolen Bluff trail is the one that we see the Bison & Wild Horses. Just this past week you could actually see them from 441. There were over 12 of them which isn’t typical. The La Chua trail usually has big gators sunning at the end of the trail, but the lookout on 441 usually has gators right there, as well. Right now, they are mating so they are extra active.

Hi. If an alligator hasn't been fed by humans they will almost always run away from you. Thankfully, most gators aren't fed at Paynes Prairie and it's even doubtful you will see one resting on a trail. I almost guarantee if they're on the banks or in the water they will flee YOU first!
