Absolutely lovely park, full of trails and gardens. We went to the art gallery and Winnie the pooh museum in the pavilion and really enjoyed it all. Full review by Melinda S

I went walking here at night once, and a skinless body suddenly materialized in front of me, screamed in agony, and then promptly vanished. It's voice sounded like mine. Full review by Tony C

Great park, saw a mixture of wildlife including deer, rabbits, squirrels, and even a fox! It was a snowy day so everything was white, but still beautiful. Full review by S J O
Passing through, we will only have time for a break in one green space area. Should we choose Assiniboine or The Forks? We'll want to eat something and spend some time outside, but we wouldn't have time for the zoo.

I think the writer asked about the entire park and not just the zoo. The park does have a beautiful English garden a nice restaurant by the duck pond, beautiful open spaces. Unfortunately the conservatory is closed while a new one is preparing for construction. There is also a small art museum in the pavilion. The zoo is off to one side of the park and is quite a nice little zoo.

Everyone can wander the rest of the park including the English garden, Leo Mol sculpture garden, duck pond, cricket fields and other paths for free. Bicycles can be rented for a fee in summer and there is a toboggan slide in winter ( don't know if cost or not). Dogs can be on leash in park but not allowed in zoo.

If you have a car rental, it would be about a 10-15 minute drive. You could take a cab, or if you had time, there may be city bus service. Your hotel may provide a shuttle to Polo Park (a shopping mall near the airport), then it would be an easy one bus ride to Assiniboine Park and the Zoo.
You might rent a car for a day. We had our own car and used our Gps and directions from our hotel. You might ask the staff at your hotel for suggestions for transportation.

You would have to check with the zoo. They have very strict policies. When I took my niece there several years ago, they had an early morning program on certain days, before the zoo was open, when a zoo keeper took us to watch the feeding of some of the very large animals.
