China has launched construction on what it calls the “Project of the Century” — the world’s biggest hydropower dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo river in Tibet. Costing 1.2 trillion yuan, this megadam will generate nearly 300 million megawatt hours of electricity annually — over three times more than the Three Gorges Dam.
