Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis pushed back against a new report that said last year’s $10 million donation to Hope Florida, a charity spearheaded by his wife Casey DeSantis, was part of a Medicaid settlement that owed millions of dollars to state and federal taxpayers.

Florida’s top Medicaid regulator on Tuesday sought to explain that a $10 million donation made to a nonprofit associated with first lady Casey DeSantis’ community-based assistance program was not made with Medicaid dollars recouped in a much larger cash settlement.

A draft agreement of a $67 million settlement between the DeSantis administration and a Medicaid contractor that had overbilled the state sheds new light on how $10 million of that amount was diverted to Hope Florida.
