Lester Holt is to step down as anchor of “NBC Nightly News” after a decade behind the desk of the flagship evening newscast, NBC News and others reported. The veteran journalist, who has been in the role since 2015, is reportedly leaving in early summer.

The newscaster will continue his full-time role as the lead anchor of NBC's "Dateline." Seasoned NBC journalist Lester Holt has announced that he is stepping down as the anchor of NBC Nightly News, joining a growing list of newscasters who are parting ways with NBC amid network shakeups.

Lester Holt, longtime anchor and managing editor of "NBC Nightly News," announced Monday he will be stepping away from the broadcast at the beginning of the summer, the network reported. Holt, who is 65, has been anchoring the show for 10 years.
