Payments firm PayPal has partnered with the operator of India’s popular unified payments interface and others to launch a global platform through which consumers can make cross-border payments to businesses.

PayPal World is set to launch in late 2025 and will begin with offering interoperability between PayPal and Venmo. PayPal World will also include UPI as part of its initial launch.

As of May 2025, there are over 500 million active UPI users in India, and UPI accounts for around 85% of the total volume of retail digital payments. The system has already been launched in at least seven countries,
