It’s not easy to find what locals call the Bird Rock Bike Path. Google Maps calls it the La Jolla Bike Path, while the map on my iPhone refers to it as the Fay Avenue Bike Path.

You have to drive to the end of Bird Rock Avenue and look down from the unmarked viewing platform for a clear view of the roughly 30-foot-long outcropping of fine-grain sandstone and olive-gray shale.
