Photographers watch the last McDonnell Douglas MD-11 in commercial service get towed away from the gate after its last scheduled flight, from the Amsterdam airport viewing terrace, Oct. 26, 2014.
To review the history, McDonnell Douglas delivered its first MD-11 in 1990. It merged with Boeing in 1997. Three years later, Boeing halted production of the aircraft after 200 had been built.
The MD-11 first flew for a passenger airline on Dec. 20, 1990, debuting with Finnair on a flight from Helsinki to Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. Need a break?
