Manchester United's plan to build a 100,000-seat stadium has taken a big step toward becoming reality, with the vision receiving the green light from the Trafford Council executive.

Manchester United are set to decide between redeveloping Old Trafford or building a new stadium by the end of the season. The Old Trafford regeneration task force has published its options report into the future of United’s stadium and the proposed regeneration of the surrounding area.

Manchester United’s plans for a new stadium edged a step closer last night after they received the green light from Trafford Council. United are looking to either build a new, 100,000-seater venue to replace Old Trafford, or revamp the current ground and increase the capacity to 87,000.

Trafford town hall bosses have now backed a ‘once in a generation opportunity’ for the £4.2bn redevelopment of Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium - and with it, the regeneration of western gateway of the city along banks of the Manchester Ship Canal.
