As for our then-and-now views, Gateshead High Street certainly appears much quieter these days than it did in 1975, and few could deny in 2023 that it could do with some care and attention.

Today’s pictures show the top end of the Gateshead’s much-changed High Street. Our main image was taken in 1965 and shows the busy street at the junction of Old Durham Road and Belle Vue Terrace.
