The new 6.5-kilometer Western Harbour Tunnel is expected to cut traffic by 35 percent in the Western Distributor, 20 percent in the Sydney Harbour Tunnel, and 17 percent on the Harbour Bridge 2.
The fare at the western tunnel will still be HK$60 for private cars, while at the other two tunnels, the fare will be HK$40, twice the current cost of a Cross-Harbour Tunnel journey.
Works on the freeway are more than 70 per cent complete and expected to wrap up by late 2026, but drivers will have to wait a little longer for the Western Harbour Tunnel to open in 2028.
