John Chell became the NYPD's highest ranking uniformed officer when he was sworn in as Chief of Department at Times Square on New Year's Eve.

The NYPD’s former Chief of Department, Jeffrey Maddrey has been suspended following joint investigations by federal authorities and the Internal Affairs Bureau. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced on Wednesday that the joint investigation under her discretion led to a search of Maddrey’s home.
