George Levin, 63, was found in the basement of his Chicago home on Jan. 26 just hours after he had dinner with his family upstairs, according to a criminal complaint reviewed by PEOPLE.

George Levin, 63, died of multiple injuries from an assault, the Cook County medical examiner's office said. He was found late Sunday in a basement apartment in the 7600 block of West Talcott Avenue.
