The James Madison team that flew into town on Saturday is only a shell of the one that won the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and reached the second round of the NCAA playoffs, but the Dukes still had enough to handle Georgia State.

Georgia Southern entered play tops among Sun Belt teams in bench points scored at 32 per game. Marshall had the edge in this one, 20-16. The Herd snapped Georgia Southern’s win streak at three. It now leads the overall series 14-4 with the two-game season sweep.

Bryce Lindsay scored 19 points to guide James Madison to an 86-79 victory over Georgia State on Saturday. Lindsay also had five rebounds for the Dukes (12-9, 5-4 Sun Belt Conference). Xavier Brown scored 17 points and added three steals.

Jalen Speer's 16 points helped Marshall defeat Georgia Southern 71-67 on Saturday. Speer went 6 of 10 from the field (2 for 4 from 3-point range) for the Thundering Herd (13-9, 6-3 Sun Belt Conference).

It was a long-time coming for first-year Marshall women’s basketball coach Juli Fulks, as her team finally notched their first Sun Belt Conference victory of the 2024-25 season over Georgia Southern 67-60.

Jalen Speer scored 25 points as Marshall beat Georgia State 92-79 on Thursday night. Speer added seven assists for the Thundering Herd (12-9, 5-3 Sun Belt Conference). Obinna Anochili-Killen added 23 points while shooting 9 of 16 from the field and 4 for 4 from the line while he also had 10 rebounds and nine blocks.
