Democrats protested Vought’s nomination overnight Wednesday on the Senate floor, with several referring to him as Trump’s “most dangerous nominee.”

Seizing the Senate floor is one of the remaining tools the minority party has to stonewall a confirmation. Democrats unanimously oppose Vought, a Project 2025 author who is influential in Musk’s DOGE efforts to gut government.

The Senate on Wednesday teed up a final vote on the nomination of Russell Vought to lead the White House budget office. The Senate voted 53-47 along party lines on Wednesday to limit debate on Vought’s nomination to lead the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in the face of staunch opposition from Democrats.
