Two House Democrats are looking to block President-elect Trump from enacting another ban on transgender people serving openly in the military, reintroducing legislation Thursday that would prevent the armed forces from hiring or firing someone because of their gender identity or sex characteristics.

The legislation from Rep. Sara Jacobs of California would seek to counter a move Donald Trump has promised to make as early as his first day back in office.

A GOP bill banning transgender girls from playing high school sports could cause conflicts around California even if it fails in the state Capitol.

Two Texas Democrats voted to ban transgender athletes in girls sports on Tuesday. Reps. Vicente Gonzalez and Henry Cuellar voted yes on the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. The bill passed 218-206.

House Republicans say they are upholding their promise to keep transgender student-athletes out of women and girls' sports.
