The STAAR test results for this year will still count toward school accountability, it just will no longer decide if a student passes or fails the 5th or 8th grade.

The STAAR exam requires students from third through eighth grade to test in math and reading. In addition, fifth-graders are tested in science and eighth-graders in science and social studies.

HISD saw growth in its share of students who met grade level in every STAAR exam tested for third through eighth grade students, Superintendent Miles said.
