A teenage boy was shot and wounded outside a Brooklyn public school Thursday morning — the first day students returned to classes after the holiday break, according to police.

A shooting on New Year's Day has a 39-year-old man recovering in the hospital. Police tell News 12 It happened at 685 Stanley Ave. around 8:20 p.m. They say the victim is in stable condition, though additional sources say he is unable to speak at the moment.

The victim, who is a student at a nearby school, was shot once in the abdomen by the gunman, who fled eastbound on Flushing Avenue, police said.
