A Massachusetts federal judge has temporarily blocked the NIH funding cuts for universities and research institutions after Attorney General Andrea Campbell sued the Trump administration on Monday.
The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court for Massachusetts. In it, the states argue that NIH is failing to meet statutory obligations and violating regulations.
The proposed funding cap would have an outsized impact in Massachusetts, the nation’s top state recipient of NIH funding awards per capita, with $550 million on the line.
