NEW YORK – This year's Kennedy Center honorees were unveiled Thursday morning, and they include Harlem's historic Apollo Theater. It's the first institution to ever be honored by the Kennedy Center.

The North Shore Community Theatre secured 80 seats from Manhattan's Apollo, which removed them as part of a renovation.

"We are thrilled to pay special tribute to New York City's renowned Apollo Theater on its 90th anniversary," said Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter in a statement.
