Style files for ArcMap have the file extension of ".amstyle." A style file will change the look and feel of a map project within the ArcMap application without changing any geo-spatial data.

The ArcMap component creates map files with the file extension of ".mxd." Once a map is created, the map can be exported to a Web-friendly file format, such as JPEG.
