Before the injury, Sale was looking like the version of himself that won a Cy Young in 2024. He had a 2.52 ERA and 2.65 FIP through 15 starts, striking out more than 30% of opposing hitters.

His 114 total strikeouts tie him for fifth in MLB. Sale on the season has fanned 30.8 percent of hitters facing him against a walk rate of just seven percent.

The 36-year-old Sale endured a slow start to the 2025 season, but he's been in peak form lately. On the year, he's pitched to a 2.52 ERA (163 ERA+) across 15 starts and 89 ⅓ innings.
