Thousands of excited fans flocked to a Thai zoo on Thursday to celebrate the first birthday of Moo Deng, the adorable baby pygmy hippo that has become a social media sensation.

They even noted how there was a 20 per cent increase in global searches for trips to Edinburgh following the announcement of Edinburgh Zoo’s very own pygmy hippo, Haggis.

A male pygmy hippo – the same species as Thailand's viral Moo Deng – was born at Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Goddard, Kansas on June 26.
