Plans for a new, movable $1.3 billion bridge in Connecticut are set to get underway after Amtrak awarded a construction contract to Tutor Perini and O&G Industries.
"DOTD currently employs around 175 employees across the state to operate its movable bridges," Mallett said. "Many bridges are manned and operate 'on signal,' meaning they will open upon request.
Alternate A would be a movable span bridge with a 65-foot clearance that would extend to 135 feet. At $765.9 million, this option is expected to be the most expensive.
The one Pequonnock River bridge that still gets regular action is the southernmost Stratford Avenue bridge. Built in 1975, that structure is going to be due for some repair shortly.
