For more than 30 years, the Shofuso house has celebrated the historical Japanese festival of Tanabata, attracting residents to learn and commemorate the holiday.

Origami is the art of paper folding to create animals and other objects. It has a long history in Japan; in 1797, the first known origami book was published there.

KADINA High School was temporarily transformed into a school of Japanese culture yesterday, complete with origami, judo and sushi-making.
