A painting once bought at a Minnesota garage sale for $50 just might be a newly discovered Vincent van Gogh artwork. Investigators are hard at work, trying to figure out why someone would spend $50 for some random painting at a garage sale.

During Vincent van Gogh’s year-long stay in a French asylum, he created some 150 paintings—including Irises and The Starry Night. He also painted many interpretations of other artists’ work, calling them “translations.

A red hair — the color of van Gogh’s locks — was found embedded in the paint, which was proven to be from early 19th century France.
