MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Division of Motor Vehicles will soon debut a new series of license plates that begin with the letter "B" after nearly eight years of the current "A" series.

Look around at Wisconsin license plates and you'll likely notice a common theme. The standard-issue ones all start with the letter 'A.'

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation's Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is introducing a new series of license plates starting with the letter 'B'.

It took eight years to cycle through Wisconsin license-plate combinations beginning with 'A' and probably seven years to get through 'B' plates.

After nearly eight years, newly issued license plates in Wisconsin will start with the letter "B." Standard-issue, non-personalized plates had all started with the letter "A" since the Division of Motor Vehicles began issuing seven-character plates in 2017.
