Martin Luther King Jr.'s direct connections to Denver may be minimal, yet year after year, the community hosts one of the nation's largest celebrations of his life and legacy. What's happening: The annual Marade — a combination of the words "march" and "parade" — takes place next Monday to mark MLK Day.

The film is focused on visits in 1964 and 1967, and how Coloradans responded when the civil rights leader was slain.

The next federal holiday is upon us. On Jan. 20 we honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. The day is celebrated on the third Monday in January. This year it also marks Inauguration Day. Many offices and businesses may be closed or operating at different hours because of the day.
