Guang Hong was convicted in San Francisco this week of assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury.

San Francisco supervisors are hoping a task force will help the city's independent pharmacies survive as the big names close.

Guang Hong, 46, recovered the stolen shampoo, then charged at the suspected shoplifter and punched him in the face, prosecutors said.

"Seventeen Walgreens over the last five years, almost every Gap retail outlet is gone, CVS is under assault," said San Francisco Supervisor Ahsha Safai.

Walgreens will permanently shut the doors of 12 of its San Francisco locations. The closures are scheduled for late February, according to the company.
