  1. 16" vs 18" barrels > AR Discussions - AR15.COM

Oct 15, 2022 · An 18" BBL is more than half thE performance difference between a 16 and a 20 (extra length has demisinshing returns, the 2" address on top of 16 is more meaningful than another 2" adder to 18). 18" Gunner is actually a pretty fantastic default standard profile to run a generic general purpose AR15.

  2. 16" vs. 18" for 5.56 > AR Discussions - AR15.COM

Aug 6, 2016 · A 30-shot string of Hornady 5.56mm 75 grain TAP T2 chronographed over an Oehler 35-P chronograph from a Noveske 18” SPR barreled AR-15 had an average muzzle velocity of 2779 FPS; for a difference in muzzle velocity of 44 FPS.

  3. Why did the AR-18 fail? > General Discussion - AR15.COM

Sep 22, 2020 · As I understand it, the AR-18 was supposed to be a cheaper, easier to manufacture alternative to the AR-15 for smaller countries looking to equip their armies with a locally produced rifle. The problem was that the US government was happy sell AR-15s cheap or flat out give them away to client states.

  4. Anyone try Wilson Combat AR mags in AR-18/AR-180. (with mods …

Oct 15, 2022 · I make AR-18/AR-180 mags out of Pmags and USGI mags. Easy to do. This post is not about those. I noticed that Wilson Combat sells their AR mag with an AR-18 cut already in place. Very strange that they did this. Where it is only can serve one purpose and that is the mag catch on the AR-18.

  5. Modern AR-18 choices > General Firearm Discussion - AR15.COM

Mar 3, 2019 · Probably not, AR-18's/ AR-180's have always been pretty darn accurate, and are just modified AR-15 barrels. They would have to have use a pretty garbage barrel to have disappointing accuracy, plus all the rest of it's all AR-15 stuff, so any drop in trigger will work too (that doesn't require an AR-15 bolt) so there's a ton of match triggers ...

  6. Maybe a dumb question, but why isn't the AR-18 design more …

Mar 17, 2017 · But the AR-18 patent is long expired and it sure lends itself to the kind of layout the market seems drawn to buying. Heck, the original was even a side charger I think. As hard as some smaller companies work to "innovate" with minor tweaks you'd think someone would have come up with an upper compatible with AR15 lowers by now.

  7. 18" vs 16" 223/556 barrels > AR Discussions - AR15.COM

Nov 2, 2024 · An 18” with that load will get me maybe another 50 yards for that velocity. 16” is my vote unless you are okay going 14.5”. I have killed dozens of average to large whitetails with 77 TMK from an AR.

  8. Thinking about an 18inch AR15 for an "All Purpose/SHTF" Rifle ...

Apr 8, 2011 · I feel optic and ammo choice are far more criticle than barrel length. in my opinion a "recce" type build (16" barrel w/rifle length handguards) with a 1-4 optic with a ballistic reticle is the perfect balance for the 5.56 ar platform. run buis rather than the 45 degree setup. on my recce I sighted the back up irons on M193 ammo (most common ammo thats easy to stack deep) …

  9. What Power Optic for an 18" AR? > Optics, Mounts, and Sights

May 2, 2024 · I have personally been gravitating towards the Leupold MK5HD 3.6-18 and the Nightforce NX8 2.5-20 for my longer (18"-20") gas guns. Completely agnostic of the specific make and model, that general magnification range seems to …

  10. Armalite AR18 value > AR-15 / M-16 Retro Forum > AR15.COM

Mar 22, 2008 · My friend has a shop and a fellow wants to sell him an Armalite AR-18 with two Armalite magazines. The various books go from like $1,100 - $1,500.
